PALMDALE

BIO

Palmdale is the “nom de rock” adopted by Kay Hanley and

Linus Of Hollywood as they embarked on a new song writing venture in the summer of 2009.

Kay Hanley is the former lead singer of Boston alt-pop band, Letters To Cleo. Since the band’s split in 2000, Kay has released 3 solo recordings and has provided songs and vocals for many film and TV projects, including Josie + The Pussycats.

Multi-instrumentalist Linus Of Hollywood has an eclectic resume that began as the frontman for the influential pop/punk band Size 14. Since then, Linus has released 5 solo albums, started the Franklin Castle label and is a co-owner in the Crappy Records label with Oglio's Carl Caprioglio and Bowling For Soup's Jaret Reddick) and has built a career as producer/songwriter, working with a diverse roster of artists (Bowling For Soup, Puff Daddy, Charlatans UK and Cheap Trick to name a few).

Long time fans of one another’s work, Linus and Kay became acquainted while active participants in Los Angeles’ thriving music community and decided to combine forces. Originally, their collaboration was intended to produce pop songs that other artists would record, but that idea was quickly scrapped when the music began to take on a cohesive sound and depth. They kept the material for themselves, tweaked the focus and continued writing. The two began recording the songs in fall/winter of 2009 as Palmdale and have gone on to release two EP's, Get Wasted and How To Be Mean.

Palmdale – How To Be Mean

THINGS I THINK ABOUT ON PLANES

There's no fear of flight
Grinning into freight train headlights
I upgrade to Xanny class
Drain my second glass
And think about the things I think about on planes

I can't let you go
Twilight phantoms tiny windows
Barreling toward dusk
Might as well give up
And think about the things I think about on planes

I've been dreaming about
How it's gonna be
When the wheels touch down
Will you be you and will I still be me?

There are no dead ends
Just secrets, thieves and friends
I think about the things I think about on planes

MEET THE FUTURE DOWNLOW

Nice is never good enough
I like it when the trip is rough
Never dodge a fight 'cause there ain't nothing like
A bad save
You could twist or you could bend
And arrive at the same end
Doomed chair on a different deck

Meet the future downlow
There's only one way to go
Keeping it deep like the undertow
Wouldn't you like to know

Karma is a fickle bitch
Providence a wicked snitch
Awaited by a beast
The lucky to the least deserving
Skinny dip in the midnight sea
In stilettos of concrete
Get wasted on suicide dreams

Meet the future downlow
There's only one way to go
Keeping it deep like the undertow
Wouldn't you like to know

You flew in a lead balloon
To find out that gravity hates you
Broken bones and all
You set up for the fall again

Meet the future downlow
There's only one way to go
Keeping it deep like the undertow
Wouldn't you like to know

HERE WE GO

Take it back white is not black
And I'm staring out like a rabbit in a trap
Take it back white is not black
And I'm staring out like a rabbit in a trap

I can hear sound and lips are moving
But you could be from Japan, yeah
I could stand up straight and face the truth
But I'll never understand, no

Stomp the pavement
Crush me like a daffodil
I don't wanna know

Here we go
No
Riding in the fast lane slow
Look me in the eye tell me you don't need it
Say it all you want but I don't believe it
You're ready to stop but I'm not
So here we go

I don't wanna know
You say I gotta know
But I don't wanna know

Take it back white is not black
And I'm staring out like a rabbit in a trap
Take it back white is not black
And I'm staring out like a rabbit in a trap

I'm gonna pass out drunk on your girlfriend's lawn
With your name scrawled across my chest, yeah
I'm gonna call you 20 times and beg for mercy
That I know I'll never get, no

Go ahead pretend like it's another day
I'm sorry you feel that way

Here we go
No
Riding in the fast lane slow
Look me in the eye tell me you don't need it
Say it all you want but I don't believe it
You're ready to stop but I'm not
So here we go

CAN'T CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU

Trip trip tripping on delayed reaction
Fuck that shit, it's a call to action
Kamikazes, luck + love
The look in the eye of a nervous friend
The scary weird feeling when it happens again
Everything we do is wrong
Wonder why it took so long

I can't can't wait to see you
You can't can't wait to see me too
I got scared right outta my mind
Mad at love about a hundred times
And I can't can't wait to see you

Sick to my stomach
No sleep at night
Dizzy as a top and high as a kite
I'm spaced out staring at my shoes
Spastic jones like you wouldn't believe
Dousing that spark with kerosene
Planets swirl around the sun
Cocked and ready loaded gun

I can't can't wait to see you
You can't can't wait to see me too
I got scared right outta my mind
Mad at love about a hundred times
And I can't can't wait to see you

Meet me right now at LAX
Leave our lives in a wicked mess
At midnight and get drunk at the bar
Let's do something we'll never forget
Let's do things we're gonna regret
It's not right but I'm tired of caring
I just wanna be anywhere you are

Please can't we leave this alone?
Wait, please don't leave me alone

I can't can't wait to see you..

PICK UP THE PHONE

I blew the light like a spaced out trucker
And I hate myself for that
You say the right words and I'm a sucker
It's the same old same speed trap
What I've done is not to be believed

Hey. I know your ass is home
Hey. And you're probably not alone
You get away and I'm talking to machines again
And I know you won't pick up
And you're never gonna pick up
The phone

I got the secret information
There's no witnesses
So darling don't you forget your station
With no hits only misses
What you've done is not to be believed

Hey. I know your ass is home
Hey. And you're probably not alone
You get away and I'm talking to machines again
And I know you won't pick up
And you're never gonna pick up
The phone

We're not friends
You're making me the enemy
It all depends
What you do to me

I make a list of the things that I do well
Building ladders that go straight to hell

HOW TO BE MEAN

Press play roll the tape
And spin out like I do
Infinite battleship
I'm not prepared to lose
I got noble rot a sick funny feeling
Let's go you got me so amplified
You get laid
I get paid
I know how to be mean

No use fighting a war that you'll never win
Off and running
Spit that venom disguised like saccharine
Keep it coming
What you don't know
Would chill you to the bone
I know how to be mean

Wide eyes to the light
Like sugar to a fly
Bad chess getting played
At least you tried
Love dead sloppy head don't pay attention
Windshield never beat a slugger swing
You get off
You get tossed
You showed me how to be mean

No use fighting a war that you'll never win
Off and running
Spit that venom disguised like saccharine
Keep it coming
What you don't know
Would chill you to the bone
I know how to be mean

Never be the one who got away
Adventures in dumb the bed is made
Gimme what you got I'll make you pay

PALMDALE RELEASES NEW EP “HOW TO BE MEAN” FOR OGLIO RECORDS
FIRST SINGLE IS THE HARD HITTING POP HIT, “HERE WE GO”

Los Angeles, CA - Palmdale, the new duo featuring Kay Hanley and Linus of Hollywood, follow up on their Get Wasted debut with How To Be Mean, the new EP available from Oglio Records, a Fontana/Universal distributed label. The first single from How To Be Mean is “Here We Go”, already a fan favorite from their ongoing video blog series where they have been documenting their studio and songwriting processes since the release of their debut, Get Wasted.

“When we finished writing and recording Get Wasted, we had such a good creative flow going that we just kept writing what would become How To Be Mean. The title track was the first one we wrote, and that sort of laid the blueprint for the sound of the new EP. Writing and recording together has been very easy and fast since we are pretty much a self-contained unit (Kay and I play, sing, write and produce everything ourselves.) The new EP is a little more diverse than the last, from the hard-hitting "Here We Go" to the almost alt-country "Things I Think About On Planes" (a song that Kay brought in, in an almost finished state and is one of my favorites on the record). We also used a different team for mixing (Tom Polce) and mastering (Dave Collins) and they did a slam-dunk job!” - Linus from Palmdale on How To Be Mean

Palmdale is Kay Hanley (former lead singer for Boston alt-pop band, Letters To Cleo) and producer Linus of Hollywood. They signed with Oglio Records where Linus has produced albums from Nerf Herder, The Leftovers, Kurt Baker and more. Oglio Records is a nationally distributed independent label based in Torrance, California and has quietly become one of Los Angeles’s longest running labels devoted to Power Pop, working over the years with Pop legends Brian Wilson, Cyndi Lauper, Shonen Knife and more.

BIO

Palmdale is the “nom de rock” adopted by Kay Hanley + Linus Of Hollywood as they embarked on a new song writing venture in the summer of 2009.

Kay Hanley is the former lead singer of Boston alt-pop band, Letters To Cleo. Since the band’s split in 2000, Kay has released 3 solo recordings and has provided songs and vocals for many film + TV projects, including Josie + The Pussycats and Ten Things I Hate About You.

Multi-instrumentalist Linus Of Hollywood has an eclectic resume that began as the frontman for the influential pop/punk band Size 14. Since then, Linus has released 5 solo albums, started two labels (Franklin Castle and Crappy Records) and has built a career as producer/songwriter, working with a diverse roster of artists (Bowling For Soup, Puff Daddy, Charlatans UK and Cheap Trick to name a few).

Long time fans of one another’s work, Linus + Kay became acquainted while active participants in Los Angeles’ thriving music community and decided to combine forces. Originally, their collaboration was intended to produce pop songs that other artists would record, but that idea was quickly scrapped when the music began to take on a cohesive sound and depth. They kept the material for themselves, tweaked the focus and continued writing. They recorded the songs in fall/winter of 2009 as Palmdale.

Their first EP, “Get Wasted” was produced by Linus + Kay (all instruments played by Linus except drums) and was released March 23, 2010 (digital only) by Oglio Records.

Hot off the heels of their catchy juggernaut 'Here Comes The Summer' which earned them much praise and adoration in the indie music community including spins on the World Famous KROQfm and KCRW, the now full-fledged duo continued their song writing frenzy and have a brand new EP ready for release! 'How To Be Mean' will be available for digital download on November 9th, 2010 by Oglio Records.

With an even bigger sound and lyrical assault Palmdale continues to impress their agenda of fun and fury. Once again produced by Kay and Linus, the new EP's first single 'Can't Can't Wait To See You' will have you singing along against your better judgement. It's tastier. It's meatier. And it's good for you. Let's Palmdale.
