Ron Flynt’s New Single Receives Praise From Dwight Twilley

Flynt-Tell Me Whats Wrong M

Check out this great quote from the legendary Dwight Twilley about the new Oglio single from Ron Flynt:

In the unstable universe of American Pop Rock n' Roll Sound there are still some constants. Such is the case with Austin based musical icon Ron Flynt. There's nothing wrong with his ability to craft a smart tight 2 minute 38 second diamond. Flynt proves this with the focused authority of his new Oglio single release "Tell Me What's Wrong." Just try to play it once. B/W "Hold On To Your Heart" the clever, hard driving Beatles in Motown anthem. The song begs the question, who chose the A side? Add this release to your Solar System ASAP! Oglio Artist Ray Manzarek, Founding Member of The Doors, Passes Away at 74

Ray Manzarek RIp Facebook Cover

Ray Manzarek, keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, passed away today at 12:31PM PT at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany after a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife Dorothy Manzarek, and his brothers Rick and James Manczarek.

Manzarek is best known for his work with The Doors who formed in 1965 when Manzarek had a chance encounter on Venice Beach with poet Jim Morrison. The Doors went on to become one of the most controversial rock acts of the 1960s, selling more than 100-million albums worldwide, and receiving 19 Gold, 14 Platinum and five multi-Platinum albums in the U.S. alone. "L.A.Woman," "Break On Through to the Other Side," "The End," "Hello, I Love You," and "Light My Fire" were just some of the band's iconic and ground-breaking songs. After Morrison's death in 1971, Manzarek went on to become a best-selling author, and a Grammy-nominated recording artist in his own right. In 2002, he revitalized his touring career with Doors' guitarist and long-time collaborator, Robby Krieger.

"I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today," said Krieger. "I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."

Manzarek is survived by his wife Dorothy, brothers Rick and James Manczarek, son Pablo Manzarek, Pablo's wife Sharmin and their three children Noah, Apollo and Camille. Funeral arrangements are pending. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this difficult time. Beatallica “Abbey Load” In Stores April 16th 2013

Beatallica Abbey Load Cover Mini RGB 500

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MASH-UP MASTERS BEATALLICA READY NEW RELEASE, 'ABBEY LOAD'

You've got to tip your hat to the lads in Beatallica. Few would have thought to merge together two of the most successful acts of their respective genres - pop tunesmiths the Beatles and thrash metal bashers Metallica - and create a must-hear, creative blend of both iconic artists. And the band that contains such wittily named band members as Jaymz Lennfield, Kliff McBurtney, Ringo Larz, and Grg III are back with their third full-length overall, 'Abbey Load,' on April 16th via Oglio Records (a label that is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year).

"Overall the album is our darkest," explains Lennfield. "Not sure why it turned out that way, to be honest. We didn't realize it til we got to listening to the first mixes. It sounds brooding in places. Not like we tuned down any more or played any stoner rock or anything. But the overall vibe is deeper than other projects we've done. Maybe it's cuz the Beatles Abbey Road was the last release for them - like the end of an era. And we were placing our fingers on that. After a while, I got to embrace that whole vibe. Beatallica is always fun and interesting, and yes there are 'candy' songs on the album such as 'Help!' and 'I Saw Her Standing There'... but there is something more foreboding about Abbey Load than what we initially thought."

Once more, Beatallica have successfully found links between both aforementioned bands, most notably on the album's tour de force, "Abbey Load Medley." "The medley...well, it's obviously one of the great famous pieces of rock music," says Lennfield. "We really enjoyed working in NEWER Metallica tunes. Folks always ask us how much old stuff from Metallica we can use. Helloooo...they have a LARGE catalog, so use it!. Those tunes work great, plus the fact that we are doing what we always do: deal with tempo, time signature, rhythm patterns, keys from major to minor, adding our own riffs, etc., but now we have to make all the songs in the medley sound like they fit. Not just one song at a time, but now five songs, bang-bang-bang.. The challenge was irresistible."

As for Beatallica's plans for 2013, Lennfield predicts some good, old-fashioned global roadwork. "Well, we'd like to finally hit Japan. It's just way overdue. We have US folks asking for us to come back so we'll see how to best route. As far as Europe, they are starting to consider the fall sometime."

"Beatallica is so much more than a novelty cover band," adds Oglio Records founder Carl Caprioglio. "Beatallica's members and producer are among the most creative and talented people I have encountered in my years with Oglio Records. Their ability to blend influences from these two legendary bands is as amazing and impressive today as it was when we met in 2006."

Imagine what the Beatles' 'Abbey Road' would have sounded like if it had been originally released by Metallica, and you have a good starting point for 'Abbey Load.'

Ray Manzarek and Michael McClure – The Piano Poems: Live From San Francisco

Buy Now!

Michael McClure is a Beat Generation poet, playwright and songwriter. Ray Manzarek is a founding member of The Doors, songwriter and music producer. Together they take their loyal fans on a musical mind expanding journey with their creations. Their collaboration was documented in the Oglio Home Video release “The Third Mind” and brought to life in this all new album of thought provoking poetry.

The Doors were influenced by the 1960s beatniks and that spirit continues with this collaboration. When asked “What’s the difference between Jim Morrison’s rock lyrics and a poem?” Ray responded that “There really is no difference between Jim’s poetry writings and his music lyrics.”

Jim Morrison introduced Michael McClure to Ray during the recording sessions for “Waiting For The Sun.” That fateful meeting is still bearing fruit today with “The Piano Poems: Live From San Francisco.”

Larry Kassin is featured on flute in 13 of the 14 tracks on this collection. Larry founded the internationally recognized Noe Valley Music Series in 1981, at the Noe Valley Ministry in San Francisco, California.

Oglio Records has released a soundtrack album ("Love Her Madly") and a DVD ("The Third Mind") with the legendary Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. This latest release, a collaboration with Ray and poet Michael McClure entitled "The Piano Poems: Live From San Francisco", takes Ray's music to another dimension.

Michael McClure states:

On a cold, foggy night in San Francisco after a great Japanese meal, Manzarek and I stepped onto the stage and there were sparks of consciousness — the stage was on fire with poems and piano Improvisations. The symbiosis and the synergy made lights. Then Larry Kassin stepped up to join us with his jazz flute and Lou Judson was recording. This is a live album with its heart still beating — no tricks, gimmicks, or second takes. We are bringing together my poetry and Ray’s improvisations that shape my word-sounds into richer meanings: Piano Poems.

There’s no way to be without a politics or an antipolitics, no way to be without art, without anger and generosity, without laughter and kindness.

That’s the edge we’re whetting on this album.

—Michael McClure

Kurt Baker 4GB USB Cassette BackKurt Baker is a singer, songwriter and rock n' roll performer from Portland, Maine who has always gone by the famous saying "Have a Good Time All the Time". He is a founding member of the notable pop/punk outfit the Leftovers, who formed in 2002 and released many acclaimed records and toured all over North America and Europe. Kurt Baker's signature unique blend of ultra catchy Beach Boys/Beatles styled melodies under a relentless wall of high energy guitars and pounding rhythms have earned him the praise of Larry Livermore (founder of Lookout Records), Ben Weasel (Screeching Weasel) and Jaret Reddick (Bowling For Soup).

Kurt emerged as a solo artist with a "labor of love" solo EP, "Got It Covered", (2010 Oglio Records). Produced by Los Angeles based pop genius, Linus of Hollywood, "Got It Covered" featured Baker's take on some of his favorite Power Pop songs of the 70's and 80's and featured guest appearances from Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo) and Adam Marcello (Katy Perry). Kurt's love of these classic songs all had one thing in common- "a key sense of melody.. and melody has always been the most important aspect of music to me. If you have a catchy hook in your song, you can do no wrong. I've always strived to write music that is catchy and fun.. that will be stuck in your head for hours after listening".

After a successful solo-tour of Europe in the fall of 2010, backed by Italy's best Power Pop band, The Radio Days, Baker focused on taking his solo act back to the USA. A brief stint of shows throughout the Midwest brought together a group of musicians featuring Mike Bryne (the Methadones), Wyatt Funderburk (Second Saturday), Geoff Useless (the Guts) & Craig Sala (Planeside), to make up the Kurt Baker Band.

By January 2011, Baker had recruited longtime friends Josh Malia (The Taxis, Hi Fivin White Guys) and Kris Rodgers (Goodnight Process) into the fold. They soon returned to the studio to record the new “Rockin’ For A Living”, Kurt’s debut full-length solo album, due out October 25th 2011 on Oglio Records. As a special favor to Kurt’s European fans, “Rockin” For A Living” will be released as a limited-edition vinyl by Stardumb Records (Holland) and Torreznetes Entertainment (Spain). A tour of Europe has been booked as well as dates in the US to support the record.

When looking at what drives Kurt’s musical passion, he can pinpoint the second his life was changed by music. “The first record I ever loved was “Rubber Soul” by the Beatles. I must have been 5 years old when my uncle played me his cassette tape in his gigantic van as we drove through the rolling hills of Wisconsin. I’ll never forget the feeling that I felt when I first heard the opening chords of “Drive My Car” and the rockin’ shuffle of “The Word”.. even the melodic 12 string intro of Harrison’s “If I Needed Someone” hit me as something totally new and foreign. The songs in “Rubber Soul” just struck something in me.. it was exciting, and almost indescribable. I finally felt like I understood something.”

Quotes
“There are a couple of things I pride myself in, buy first is my ability to spot raw talent. The first time I met the Leftovers - goofy teens from Maine who drove ten hours just to play a free party in Queens - I knew they were the real thing. Kurt Baker's got an ear for pop melody that only comes along a few times in a generation, and a true love for the minutiae and history of rock 'n' roll. I can't wait to hear what he comes up with next.” - Jim Testa, Jersey Beat

“Kurt Baker is an amalgamation of all my favorite things. He’s got a biting vocal swagger (reminiscent of Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson), a comprehensive knowledge of classic pop music, a lovable Joey Ramone-esque personality and the songwriting chops of a man twice his age. I’m continuously excited by his creativity, positivity and prolificness.” - Linus of Hollywood
