About Margo Guryan
Margo Guryan grew up in the suburbs of New York City and took piano lessons from the age of six. At Boston University she fell in love with jazz and in her junior year switched her major from piano to composition. She was primarily a jazz songwriter; her first recorded song was "Moon Ride", performed by Chris Connor on Atlantic Records. One day a friend, the jazz pianist and composer Dave Frishberg, urged her to listen to the song "God Only Knows" from the album Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. Margo loved it and was moved to try her hand at writing in this vein. Subsequently, her songs were recorded by Spanky And Our Gang, Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell, Cass Elliot and Jackie DeShannon, among others, plus famously unreleased recordings by Harry Nilsson and Dion.

In 1968, Bell Records released her album Take A Picture, full of rock and jazz-tinged pop melodies. Due to Guryan's refusal to perform, the album was under-promoted and failed to make an impact. Guryan continued to write, produce other artists (with her husband, David Rosner) and once again studied classical piano, eventually becoming a teacher.

Take A Picture was reissued in 2000 in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. A collection of demos entitled 25 Demos has also been made available. This was followed in 2009 by a box-set retrospective released South Korea. A video was produced for Margo's song "16 Words" which generated many `hits' and comments on YouTube plus a 2007 enhanced-CD release in the U.K. on Pure Mint Records. In the late '90s "The Chopsticks Variations", a piano composition, was published, and a recording was made available in 2009 on Oglio Records.

Ron Flynt’s New Single Receives Praise From Dwight Twilley

Flynt-Tell Me Whats Wrong M

Check out this great quote from the legendary Dwight Twilley about the new Oglio single from Ron Flynt:

In the unstable universe of American Pop Rock n' Roll Sound there are still some constants. Such is the case with Austin based musical icon Ron Flynt. There's nothing wrong with his ability to craft a smart tight 2 minute 38 second diamond. Flynt proves this with the focused authority of his new Oglio single release "Tell Me What's Wrong." Just try to play it once. B/W "Hold On To Your Heart" the clever, hard driving Beatles in Motown anthem. The song begs the question, who chose the A side? Add this release to your Solar System ASAP! The foursome’s debut 12-track LP Audio Satellite on Glue Factory Records introduces the band’s sound which mixes “a dollop of bubble gum melodies and crunching rock-candy guitars...a secret recipe of tooth-rotting melodic rock and roll,” notes Southern Cal’s Mean Street Magazine.

Oglio Artist Ray Manzarek, Founding Member of The Doors, Passes Away at 74

Ray Manzarek RIp Facebook Cover

Ray Manzarek, keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, passed away today at 12:31PM PT at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany after a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife Dorothy Manzarek, and his brothers Rick and James Manczarek.

Manzarek is best known for his work with The Doors who formed in 1965 when Manzarek had a chance encounter on Venice Beach with poet Jim Morrison. The Doors went on to become one of the most controversial rock acts of the 1960s, selling more than 100-million albums worldwide, and receiving 19 Gold, 14 Platinum and five multi-Platinum albums in the U.S. alone. "L.A.Woman," "Break On Through to the Other Side," "The End," "Hello, I Love You," and "Light My Fire" were just some of the band's iconic and ground-breaking songs. After Morrison's death in 1971, Manzarek went on to become a best-selling author, and a Grammy-nominated recording artist in his own right. In 2002, he revitalized his touring career with Doors' guitarist and long-time collaborator, Robby Krieger.

"I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today," said Krieger. "I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."

Manzarek is survived by his wife Dorothy, brothers Rick and James Manczarek, son Pablo Manzarek, Pablo's wife Sharmin and their three children Noah, Apollo and Camille. Funeral arrangements are pending. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please make a memoriam donation in Ray Manzarek's name at www.standup2cancer.org

The Beach Reporter on Oglio’s 20th Anniversary

Oglio is preparing to enter our 20th year in the music business. It has been a wild two decade ride with quite a few unexpected twists. Thanks to all the artists, employees and colleagues that made the first 20 possible.

Our favorite local South Bay newspaper - The Beach Reporter - sent over Michael Hixon to do a story on Oglio's coming 20th anniversary. Turns out Michael is a great guy with a pretty awesome gig covering entertainment for The Beach Reporter. Check out his story here:
